We just returned from an incredible 10 days in Mexico. It was a three part trip--first with the Aplebaums, then to Chichen Itze, and then to Akumal. Each part was amazing and I am so grateful for all of it. We had a fabulous time at Dreams--doing all the things you do at an all inclusive resort. Drinks, pools, buffets, pool zumba, beach, and ridiculous evening shows. The kids all had such a good time together--and so did we! Milestone moment--all three of our kids happily shared a room! We then said goodbye to the Aplebaums, got our rental car, and hit the road. We had a great drive and arrived in Piste, the small town outside of Chichen Itze. After some electricity issues, we wound up staying in Villas that were once housing for archeologists. Our family had a great day walking walking walking around Chichen Itze--seeing the magnificent ruins and buying many souvenirs. Hersh was a great photographer, Lu a great historian, and Sender an excellent participant--able to to do so much walking! We had pizza at a little place in the pueblo, swam in a beautiful cenote, and enjoyed the goods of the panderia.
We then drove to Akumal/Half Moon Bay for Lu's 9th birthday and snorkeling! On our way we made an unplanned stop and had an amazing time walking around Valladolid--popping in and out of shops, tasting all the food, and just exploring. The kids are so flexible and curious, resilient and hearty. They barely complain, have great dispositions, and are a true joy to be with. A shout out to Dr Lewis for planning an incredible trip for our family---all of his efforts truly made our trip a success!
We then landed in our final spot in Akumal, where we settled in for some beach/snorkel time and to celebrate our little lade turning 9! Except for the smelly, invasive sargasso grass, it was incredible. All of the kids were great snorkelers and we saw turtles, fish, giant stingrays, and starfish. And let's pause and honor our lady--she is truly a gem--creative, smart, sensitive, silly, insightful, and a true delight!
