Springtime in Wien

There were many things that we really liked about living in Seattle, but one thing that Vienna has that Seattle does not have is a beautiful spring.  The past 2-3 weeks have been amazing--sunny, in the 60's (sometimes reaching into the 70's), birds chirping, Eis Salons (ice cream parlors) reopening, and sidewalk cafes popping up all over the place.

This beautiful weather has allowed us to go on many walks around the city, play in sandboxes, visit the zoo with friends, enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine, and even eat dinner on our balcony after Hersh has gone to bed and the stars are out.  It is such a drastic change from the cold, cold, snowy winter.  People are slowly peeling off their boots and winter coats, and enjoying a picnic in the park.

Hersh is changing so much each day.  He is frustrated at times that he cannot fully communicate, but we are continuing with sign language, and each day he is able to tell us more and more of what he wants us to know.  He currently knows or we are working on the signs for: more, all done, up, milk, walk, hat, eat, thank you, and drink.  He is so curious and is investigating his surroundings.  We are having a lot of fun with him, and are working on adjusting to the fact that we are almost parents of a 1 year old!

Yesterday was my birthday and we had a lovely day.  We went for Indian food for lunch and then saw Der Blaue Reiter exhibit at the Albertina.  In the evening we had a babysitter come after we put Hersh to bed, and Jacob and I went for dinner and dessert.  It was a really nice day.  Thanks to everyone for their love and birthday wishes!

Gnawing on an apple.

Giant box of chocolate banana candy.  May look good, but they are not good, and the box is so heavy.
On the giant swing at the park by our house.

Enjoying the bath!

  1. Hersh really has a thing for the hats, don't he?

  3. Craig K.--Hersh is a hat man--and if he doesn't wear a hat old Austrian women yell at me (in German,so I don't know what they are saying), but I know it's about the hat.
Craig S.--I actually thought of how you would scold me the first time I put that hat on Hersh this spring :)
